February 7th 2004 Meeting Highlights

A thank you from Spooner House was read by Finance Officer Schwing for donation to the Spooner House for $100.00 made by the MOPH Chapter #1. The Spooner House is a homeless shelter serving the Nagatuck Valley..

Commander Doherty discussed the invitation by the Marine Corp League to be present for the Iwo Jima program at Marine Corps League Hdqts in Seymour. Purple Heart Marines will attend on February 22 at 7:00 PM.

Commander Doherty discussed the coming events for Saturday, March 27th at 10:00 AM for a proposed visit by the Commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs at Rocky Hill. The date for her visit ( at the Derby Vererans Building ). The Commissioner, Linda Schwartz , is expected to discuss happenings at the Home and Hospital at Rocky Hill. She has begun the process of building a new Hospital with all the bells and whistles for our veterans who live there. On Saturday, May 15th at 10:00 AM we will have a program to honor those Medics and Corpsmen who put us back together after combat duties turned ugly. At this time, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal will do the honors. Mr. Blumenthal served in the Marines. The Commander needs some volunteers to help with the program. Also we need to find the honorees . If you know someone who fits the bill as a Medic or Corpsman in the Military please let us know. Commander Doherty is looking for volunteers to attend a DAR meeting in Milford to describe the Purple Heart.
